My Excuse(s)

Okay, Bethany, here's my excuse. You know I've always been a better blurker than a blogger, so it shouldn't surprise you if I go 30 days without posting. You also know I'm not much of a techie, so it shouldn't surprise you that yesterday I spent over 45 minutes getting the 395 pictures I took during the last 2 weeks of December off my memory card, onto my computer, and then backed up on disks. Hmm, what else... oh, yes, since none of my sisters were in town during the weeks prior to Christmas, I had to do the annual Baking Marathon myself. Oh, yeah, then there's that little matter of my anniversary being tucked in between Christmas and New Year's... and of course, the fact that I am a homeschooling mom -- "Hey kids! Let's talk about the evacuation from Dunkirk while we trim the tree! Then we can recite our Shurley Jingles after we practice those choir songs! And you kids can help Mommy remember all those capacity conversions so I know how many pounds of potatoes we need for the Singles Christmas Banquet! No, I don't know how many different animals are ovoviviparous, but I do know that I start to feel sick when I eat 4 snickerdoodles and 2 sugar cookies followed by a glass of regular eggnog. Yes, you're right, I did just say that I ate half a dozen cookies, but it sounds so much worse when you put it that way. What? You didn't read the Molly book? Oh, let's just watch the movie instead, and we'll wrap presents while we're at it." Speaking of movies, I also can't neglect to mention the fabulous, 25 days of Christmas on the Family Channel -- what is a year without watching "Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey" at least twice? But really, I think my best excuse is this:

Hehe. Great post Heather. :) By the way, I did end up making some sugar cookies from the recipe you sent me. Mmmmm. They were so yum. Thank you!

You're welcome! This year we used that recipe and made all snowflakes. (My hidden motive was that I could just slap on some plain white icing, then come back through and add some blue accents and details!) I'm learning that it's easier to do one or two shapes rather than using all my Christmas cookie cutters! There's nothing like a kitchen with 10 bowls of different colored royal icing! :) Glad you could put the recipe to use!

Oh that was funny.

PS I was crying the day I was baking without you. Then I forgot to bring my cookies to church so I ended up with tons of leftovers that I think I was the only one eating. I just might have gained more weight this last month than I did while pregnant. HA HA.

Bethany, I know the feeling of having too many treats in the house. Every morning I'd pour my cup of coffee and look over at those tins, and I just couldn't resist! I was actually glad to leave a load of goodies at Mom's on New Year's! Hannah, I'm glad you took some of the load home with you! :)

Annie and Spotty are doing quite well, thank you! The kids strive to keep their Health, Happiness, and Hunger monitors in the 95-100% range! I actually wasted 30 minutes on there the other day, earning points for Gordon. (He's a little handicapped since he can't read yet.) I pretended I was 5-6 years old and answered 100 questions in the Quizzy Zone. Gordon was able to buy the football bed he'd really been wanting, only he turned around and sold it a few days later! Go figure! It was really cute when they figured out how to send virtual mail and gifts to one another!

Sarah,

I wish you could come in March, but I totally understand! I was just looking at pictures from last March. I have some cute ones of the girls playing dress ups and dancing in the sun room. Especially Ally. Man, is she a cutie! Then and now!
